Let`s face it! No one wants to start off their day by rubbing unsanitary ingredients over their face. Well, it turns out that many common cosmetics do contain unsanitary ingredients. To be precise, we are talking about a rat poop. According to a press release published by the London`s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit, some cheap knockoffs of common cosmetic are produced illegally and are likely to contain unsanitary ingredients.
As found by their lab tests, knockoff perfumes contained both cyanide and human urine. In addition, the cosmetic products designed for topical application of the face were found to contain traces of led, mercury and arsenic. Believe it or not, even rat poop was occasionally found in these products.
It appears that makeup tools pose danger too. Fake styling oils are liable to overheat and burn the person who uses them. Nowadays, there is a $139 million a year counterfeit cosmetic industry, but there isn`t a legal effort to stop them in the UK. Unfortunately, stopping them is made difficult due to the fact that fakes are harder to spot if you shop online or simply don’t pay attention.
Police advice people to be extra cautious, as looking closer can help you stop a fake. The product itself or grammatical errors on the website you are buying from is a dead giveaway. As recommended by FBI, do a price check of the item against other online vendors before you buy online. If the price is quite the same, you are on the safe track.
