Dr. Otto H. Warburg is a biochemist, one of the twentieth century`s leading cell biologists and a Nobel Prize Winner. He spent his entire life looking for the cause of cancer.
His study revealed that the root cause of cancer is too much acidity in the body. The normal level of pH in the body is below 7.365, and every value lower is considered to be acidic.
Dr. Warburg investigated both metabolism of tumor cells and the respiration of cells. His study found that cancer cells survive in environment with a lower pH levels, as low as 6.0.Two important factors which contribute to an increase in acidity are the high levels of CO2 and production of lactic acid.
According to Dr. Warburg, there is a direct relation between the oxygen level and the pH value and healthy cells need oxygen to survive. Any lower pH value, which is acidic, means lower oxygen level and vice versa, any pH value higher than 7.365, which is alkaline, is followed by a higher concentration of oxygen molecules.
Dr. Warburg became a Nobel Laureate and in 1931 he received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his extraordinary discovery. The award came after receiving 46 nominations over a period of nine years beginning in 1923, 13 of which were submitted in 1931, the year he won the prize.
He stated: “Cancerous tissues are acidic, whereas healthy tissues are alkaline. Water splits into H+ and OH- ions, if there is an excess of H+, it is acidic; if there is an excess of OH- ions, then it is alkaline”.
In his work which is called “The Metabolism of Tumors”, Dr. Warburg explained that: “all forms of cancer are characterized by two basic conditions: acidosis and hypoxia (lack of oxygen).
Lack of oxygen and acidosis are two sides of the same coin: where you have one, you have the other.” “All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen – a rule without exception. Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous”.
His study found that cancer cells are anaerobic, meaning that they don’t breathe oxygen and cannot thrive in aerobic state or in an alkaline state. Dr. Warburg has made it clear that the root of cancer is oxygen deficiency, which creates an acidic state in the human body, meaning that acidity increases as the levels of oxygen decrease.
