Study Confirms Clove Oil to be Effective Against Tooth Pain

Conventional staples like Anbesol and Orajel contain the anesthetic benzocaine which can cause allergic reactions and other side effects. But now studies have shown that toothache pain can be alleviated with clove oil.

Clove essential oil is well known as a natural medicine and an effective treatment for toothaches.  For centuries people have been using it to treat oral pain. Clove essential oil, when applied topically, effectively numbs that area. The topical numbing agents temporarily deaden the nerve endings causing a lost of sensation in the afflicted area. According to a 2006 study published in the Journal of Dentistry, clove oil works the same as benzocaine in helping with toothaches and chronic tooth pain.

Clove oil’s main chemical component, eugenol, makes it a very stimulating essential oil that promotes blood circulation and benefits the cardiovascular health. Clove is a powerful antioxidant that destroys free radicals and strengthens the immune system.

Clove is very rich with manganese. It is vital for the metabolism, contributes enzymes, and promotes bone strength.

Clove Essential oil method

Mix two drops of clove oil with half a teaspoon of coconut oil and then soak a cotton ball in the mixture. Place and hold the cotton ball in your mouth against the sore tooth or gum. Once the pain has eased, remove the cotton ball. Never use this method in bed at night since it is a choking hazard.

You can also use whole cloves by placing a couple of them near the affected area for several minutes until they soften and then chew them with the tooth that is hurting.

Remember that many essential oils on the market are not 100% pure and therapeutic and might potentially have toxic extenders. Make sure that your clove oil is organic.
