This will help you quit smoking for just five minutes!
We have great news for all those people who tried unsuccessfully to quit smoking. Finally, a vaccine against smoking and nicotine addiction is developed.
Scientists claim to have developed a vaccine against addiction to nicotine. It works in a way so it literally “trains” the body to recognize the nicotine as a foreign body, or an attacker and it prevents the poison to reach to the receptors for pleasure in the brain. so far they have only tested their new vaccine in mice, and they are hopeful it will help the millions of smokers who have tried to stop, but find their addiction to nicotine is so strong.
A group of scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have merged the nicotine antigens with one molecule of protein. Once the substance is injected into the bloodstream of the animals, their organisms start to produce antibodies that are killing particles of nicotine before they reach to the brain.
Kim Janda, the author of this study, explained that the goal was to challenge the body in a counter-reaction so it would reject the nicotine
The Scripps Research scientists hope their work will lead to new nicotine-free pharmacological treatments, as well as shedding light on questions such as what makes some people more likely than others to become addicted in the first place.
If the vaccine works, it would help millions of people around the world. The research is published in the scientific journal “Journal of Medicinal Chemistry”.
