Make Sure Your Thyroid Is Getting Enough Iodine With This Simple 24 Hour Home Test

The thyroid is a gland that by its appearance resembles butterfly and its normal weight is less than one ounce. It is positioned at the front base of the neck.

The hormones that the thyroid gland secretes are distributed throughout the whole body and have an impact on the metabolism, the temperature of the body, as well as on its growth and development.

The normal function of the thyroid depends on two trace minerals: iodine and manganese. Iodine is even more significant than manganese when it comes to the proper function and the health of this gland.

There is a quite simple and cheap test that can tell you if your body has enough iodine to normalize the secretions of the thyroid.

Take a iodine tincture and paint a stamp in the size of postage stamp on the inside part of your wrist. Next, observe this stamp.

If the brown color of the stamp fades in 24 hours or even less, you have a lack of iodine to normalize thyroid secretion to the cells. Very often the body cannot use the iodine properly, even if you do take some pharmaceutical medications for your thyroid.

IODINE PATCH TEST INSTRUCTIONS

  1. this test is recommended to be done in the morning after taking a shower, but not necessarily then. You can do it any time you want
  2. you should use a iodine tincture in order to paint a postage square size stamp on the inside part of your wrist

Note: you can find the iodine tincture in any pharmacy or drugstore. You just need to make sure that the solution has its original orange color, and that it is not a clear solution

  1. write down the exact time when you have started the test, i.e. when you have painted your wrist
  2. observe your wrist and the patch coloration over the period of the following 24 hours

INTERPRETING IODINE PATCH TEST RESULTS

In general, the shorter the amount of time your body draws in the iodine, the greater the need for iodine your body has.

  1. patch starts to lighten slightly after twenty-four hours – normal
  2. patch vanishes, or almost vanishes in eighteen to twenty-four hours – mild
  3. patch vanishes or almost vanishes in twelve to eighteen hours – moderate
  4. patch vanishes, or almost vanishes in six to twelve hours – severe
  5. patch vanishes or almost vanishes in less than six hours – very severe

Repeat Testing

You can repeat this test every one or two weeks and observe your need for iodine. When the patch does not vanish within twenty-four hours anymore, adjust the iodine intake accordingly.

Whole food supplements are always recommended. You can also use Medi Herb or Standard Process, but, of course, you should consult your health practitioner first. Here is a list of the amount of iodine their supplements contain:

Min Tran—50mcg
