According to recent research, with only six seconds a day doing some more vigorous exercises you can achieve amazing results for your health, said researchers in Scotland. Experts say that this kind of exercises refers to all generations, but is the best for older people who are not able to perform more physical activities. High intensity training has attracted a lot of attention because it promises results equivalent to those achieved with a much longer exercise.
A group of pensioners came to the laboratory twice in a week for six weeks and went hell for leather on an exercise bike for six seconds. They would allow their heart rate to recover and then go for it again, eventually building up to one minute of exercise by the end of the trial.
The results that were published in the “Journal of the American Geriatrics Society”, have shown that the blood pressure to the participants was reduced by 9 percent, increased their ability to get oxygen to their muscles and found day-to-day activities like getting out of a chair or walking the dog easier.
- Many diseases are associated with a lack of physical activity. This includes diabetes and cardiovascular disease. But if we can keep people active, we will significantly reduce the risk of these diseases – said Dr. Barbaj for the BBC, also adding that a higher heart rate and blood pressure caused by exercise can be a trigger for heart attacks and stroke.
