Using marihuana for medical purposes is more and more common these days. Experts claim that it is great for treatment of different types of diseases, both chronic and acute.
New medical study has been conducted recently and it included 30 patients with ADHD. The researchers came to conclusion that all of the patients without exception showed improved concentration. But that is not all besides this they slept better and reduced impulsivity, and all that due to the use of cannabis. The same patients claimed that they had limited success with conventional treatments like Ritalin and Adderall.
After the research 22 of the patients decided to substitute the previously prescribed drugs with marijuana that helped them to reduce the symptoms. Although the group of respondents is small, the contribution of this investigation is great.
Dr. David Bearman which was one of the researchers included in the study said: “Cannabis appears to treat ADD and ADHD by increasing the availability of dopamine”. He also explained “This then has the same effect but is a different mechanism of action than stimulants like Ritalin and dexedrine amphetamine, which act by binding to the dopamine and interfering with the metabolic breakdown of dopamine.”
So we can conclude that cannabinoids in marijuana can correct dopamine deficiency in the brain which is the main cause for ADHD. Colorado and California are the only states in which is allowed the use of medical marijuana for treatment of ADHD. We hope that in near future this will change and that more states will allow the use of medical marijuana.
