Almost everyone has been through a phase of wanting to lose weight. They think about it and then ignore the thought. And one day when they become serious about losing weight, people make a sudden transition in their diet. They start avoiding pizzas, chocolates, cakes, donuts, and all foods that make them fat. They start exercising and taking diet pills. But, eventually they get tired of it and lose the motivation.
Morally, there is nothing wrong with being fat. But being overweight may cause health problems. This means that people would have to lose weight every now and then. However, the main problem is the motivation.
1. Try to imagine waking up early, sweating during workouts, successfully staying away from junk food. If you find this distressing, imagine how much better you would look like after all the struggle.
2. Don’t measure your weight daily. That way it would appear that you are not making any progress and that will drain your motivation away.
3. Picture yourself as a well built and fit person, whom other people find attractive.
4. Love yourself. You can do whatever you want with your own body, lose the excess pounds and motivate others who are just like you. Be optimistic!
5. Although this is not recommended, you can try rewarding yourself, with a slice of pizza for example, for every lost pound.
6. Stay focused. Even if some people lose weight faster than you, don’t lose your focus and delete everything that would derail you from your determination.
7. Join boot camps. They resemble that of military fitness training. You will lose weight by playing through fun activities and you will meet people and make new friends.
8. Try doing varieties of exercises, so that you don’t get bored with the same type of workout for the rest of your months.
9. Challenge yourself. Invite friends at the gym for a friendly duel of who is more motivated and successful in becoming fit and muscled by the end of the session.
10. A weight loss diet does not always mean that you have to eat foods that are boring to taste and that you dislike. Develop a liking to fruits and be creative with your meals. Make salads, mix fruits in cereals, etc.
11. Track your progress in a notebook. When you review your progress it would motivate you to renew your motivation and you will be inspired to keep going.
12. Workouts don’t have to be boring. You can cycle somewhere where there’s beautiful scenery, and run on a treadmill while listening to the music you love.
13. You can use social media if you need some moral support. Tell the world of what you’re doing and let the people who comment motivate you.
14. You can invite a friend to join you. Try to best each other.
15. There are places all over your house that might tempt you to quit your weight loss plan. Such places include the kitchen, the fridge, and pantry, office bay to slack off, etc. You can post a sticky note on these places that will remind you why you started in the first place.
16. Let your dream outfit be your motivator to lose weight. The vest jacket you always wanted to wear but couldn’t because your belly is too big. Or the polo shirt you can’t bring yourself to wearing because you are overweight. Think of the possibilities and changes that would happen if you lose the excess weight.
17. A trainer can be an excellent motivator. They are experts in what they do, which includes giving you words of motivation.
18. There is a method called “old photo trick”. Look at a picture of you from a year ago. If it displeases you, then it will motivate you. Then, after a year of weight loss that has successfully worked out, take another picture of yourself and compare the two to see the impressive work you have made. This will inspire you to keep going.
19. Set realistic goals that are achievable. If you tell yourself that you will lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, and then fail in doing so, you would lose motivation from the defeat.
20. Remember why you want to start a weight loss journey. Maybe you want someone to notice you, or you want a change and you want to know how life would be as someone fit.
21. Get motivated by people who are fit. Remember that you too can be fit like them.
