- Garlic
Formerly, garlic has appeared to be very powerful in preventing various adverse health conditions and even in treating some of them. Initially, it was mainly used for treating high blood pressure and heart diseases. However, some newly collected data from a research related to preventive medicine show that garlic successfully prevents coronary artery calcification (used as a marker for plaque formation). - Spinach
Spinach contains huge amounts of folic acid and potassium- ingredients which take part in preventing hypertension. It also contains lutein, type of naturally occurring carotenoid acting as a protector against macular degeneration. This is closely related to aging. It keeps the arteries free by preventing the cholesterol to build up and thus it prevents a heart attack. - Olive Oil
Olive oil is effective in a way that it prevents the cholesterol oxidize and stick to the arteries. Oxidized cholesterol is the only one that can stick to the artery walls and form plaques. Monounsaturated fats, ingredient contained in Olive oil, is less likely to be oxidize when mixed with bad cholesterol. - Kiwi and Cantaloupe
These two fruits contain huge amount of antioxidants which are very powerful and efficient in reducing toxic LDL cholesterol which is formed by a rusting process in the arteries. They actually stop the rust and prevent it from spreading. One cup of cantaloupe or one kiwi per day may help unclog the arteries. - Pomegranates
Pomegranates and their juice are antioxidants themselves. What they do is actually help in the fight against hardening of arteries by reducing blood vessel damage, thus reversing the progression of the disease. - Grapes
First of all, grapes contain flavonoids, resveratrol and quercetin, ingredients that seem to be very good at preventing oxidation of bad cholesterol leading to formation of plaque in artery walls. Secondly, grapes lower the risk of developing blood clots- contributors of heart diseases. - Cranberry juice
Cranberry juice increases cell`s ability to absorb the fat and at the same time, instead of letting the fat to build up in the blood vessels, it produces energy from it and keeps away the fat from the arteries. If you want to unclog your arteries, it is recommended to drink 3 glasses of this juice on weekly basis. - Oats
The soluble fiber, ingredient contained in the oats works against cholesterol creation. Interestingly, the fiber attaches itself with cholesterol and carries it out of the body. According to one conducted study, if you want to reduce the cholesterol levels by almost 20 %, it is recommended to take 1 ½ to 2 ½ cups of cooked oat-bran cereal per day. - Tomatoes
There is a study conducted in Korea, according to which tomatoes contain some compound helping in the prevention of hardening of arteries. That compound actually gives color to the tomato and it is called lycopene. According to the same research, women with higher levels of lycopene in their blood have lesser stiffness in their arteries. - Fish
Some researchers from Southampton University conducted a study in regard to the role of the fish in the prevention of clogged arteries. The study showed that fish, mainly tuna and salmon contain huge amounts of Omega 3 Oils which prevent the fatty deposits to build up in the arteries. Additionally, the fatty acids which can be found in the fish also prevent the oxidation of cholesterol and formation of clots.
